Summary: Alien visitors are trying their best to get onto the property ladder. A double drabble.
Owen sighed and gave Gwen an unhappy look. ‘They’re going to make this difficult, aren’t they?’ he said, wondering why Jack always seemed to give him all the crappy jobs.
‘Looks like it,’ Gwen replied, pulling open the front gate and wandering up to the aliens who were in the process of carrying large boxes in through the front door. ‘Look, I'm sorry, but you can’t just move in here.’ They hadn’t even been granted permission to land, or any kind of asylum, yet here they were.
One of the aliens turned to Gwen and frowned. ‘But this place is very nice. And it was not being occupied.’
‘Try telling that to the family currently in Lisbon,’ Owen replied. ‘Not sure they’ll appreciate finding alien squatters in their house.’
There was a pause.‘Could they not stay in this Liz-Bun place? It does not sound very equitable that they should have two places of residence. We would pay them, of course.’
‘I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that,’ Gwen replied. ‘And you wouldn't be safe here. Humans are not accustomed to other species living here.’
The alien sighed. ‘Fine. Harvald, don’t forget to take mother’s ashes back to the ship.’
