Summary: There are some things that even Torchwood don't have answers for. A double drabble.
Tosh heaved a sigh as she poked at the thing on the tray with a plastic spoon. ‘I used to think I’d been working for Torchwood so long that there was nothing left that could gross me out, and nothing that I couldn’t figure out given enough time and computing power, but this…’ She gave the thing another experimental poke. ‘I’m not sure if it’s animal, mineral or vegetable. Dead or alive.’
Ianto perched on the edge of the hospital bed and gave her his best reassuring smile. ‘If it was ever alive, then I pity it,’ he replied.
‘Well, that’s a relief,’ Tosh said. ‘At least if we come to a consensus that it’s dead, I'm less worried about taking my eyes off it, lest it try to consume me when I'm not looking.’
‘Attack of the killer hospital food blob,’ Ianto joked. ‘That would be very, very Torchwood. But you’re right. There are a lot of mysteries in this universe, but what they serve up in hospitals and market as food must be the greatest mystery of them all.’
She frowned. ‘I don’t have to eat it, do I?’
‘Of course not,’ he replied. ‘I smuggled in donuts.’
