drabble_zoneSummary: Tosh has grown up a lot and realises that some dreams don't have to come true. A triple drabble.
Tosh had never had a boyfriend, or a girlfriend, for that matter. She'd had more than a handful of disastrous first dates that had never really been more than an awkward drink over idle chit chat before wishing she could run screaming for the door.
It wasn't that she wasn't interested in finding the right person she could share her life with, it was just that everybody else seemed to be completely absorbed with themselves, and didn't even spare a thought for getting to know her.
The closest thing she'd ever had to a relationship, if she was strictly counting it, was the two weeks she'd been dating an alien. Not to mention the fact that she'd been portraying herself as a woman, and Tosh had never considered herself the kind that liked to experiment.
She was thirty years old and she'd never had a proper relationship. Most people would have considered that sad, and not in the upsetting way, but in the inherently embarrassing way, like there was something seriously wrong with her. Yet now when she looked at her life she didn't feel lonely at all. She had a job that she loved, great colleagues, perhaps even good friends, and more than enough to fill her days and hours so she wasn't left bouncing around between the walls of her apartment.
She found that she didn't even yearn for companionship or for love anymore. There was no giant gap in her life where she felt like something was missing. Her parents might have expected that by now she'd found herself a husband, gotten married and was thinking about starting a family. Except that wasn't Tosh. She found contentment with what she had, and though what she had wasn't a loving relationship, none of that seemed to matter anymore.
