drabble_zoneSummary: Cardiff has a problem that can't wait until after dark. A triple drabble.
Gwen poked her head around the trees, squinting at the sight off in the distance. Rhys could see the gears in her head ticking over as she made an assessment of what she was seeing.
Rhys popped his own head up and over the bushes, determined not to be left out of things. ‘Bloody hell,’ he said when he finally saw what she was seeing. ‘He's in there?’
‘That's what Lois’ intelligence says,’ she replied, her face stern. ‘Makes sense. If you've got someone you want kept under lock and key, the Ashton Down military compound is just the place.’
Poor bugger, Rhys thought. Jack might have been invincible, but Gwen said he’d been blown up when the bomb inside him had obliterated the hub. Assuming he’d come back from that – which Gwen assured him, he would – Rhys didn’t think they’d be satisfied with just locking him up. ‘And how are we supposed to get Jack out of a military compound?’
Gwen turned her head towards him. ‘What, you mean if he doesn't flirt and shag his own way out?’ she teased, trying to keep Rhys from panicking. ‘We'll think of something. We can't leave him there. Not with everything that’s going on.’
‘What about Ianto?’ The thought popped unbidden into Rhys’ head because planning a prison break seemed far more likely to succeed with the two of them, rather than just him and Gwen. Much as Rhys was loathe to admit it, he wasn’t Torchwood.
‘We’ve lost contact with him,’ she said matter-of-factly. ‘If he made it out of Cardiff, he’ll be doing whatever he can to find Jack, but for now, it’s up to us.’
Rhys puffed his cheeks and blew out a breath, staring at the brick compound. ‘Right, well, better put our thinking caps on then.’
