Summary: Andy has his theories about what has happened and why. A double drabble.
Andy took off his police cap and scratched the head underneath. ‘You don't think it's a little bit suspicious?’ he asked, giving Jack a look that said he didn't necessarily expect the Torchwood leader to give him a straight answer.
‘Suspicious doesn't sit in our vocabulary,’ Jack replied, standing and supervising his team as they cordoned off the street and began taking readings of the area. ‘I've got twenty quid bet on it being temporal subsidence,’ he said.
Andy had no idea what that was but he didn't bother asking. He just stared back at the street with its neat little row of shops all standing proud in the predawn haze. All except for one, a local fine jeweller's, that was completely missing. Not fallen down, blown up or burnt to the ground, but just gone, like there'd always been a store sized gap in the road.
‘Butcher's, baker's, dry cleaner's…’ Andy mused, ‘but the only shop that's gone is the one worth a few bob. You really don't think that's relevant?’ An alien jewel heist sounded about right to him.
Tosh walked up to them. ‘We've definitely got indications of temporal subsidence.’
Jack grinned. ‘You owe me twenty quid.’
