Summary: Jack has had to get used to twenty-first century tech. A double drabble.

There are times when Jack really begrudges being stuck in the twenty-first century. The technology isn’t anywhere near the capabilities of the future. Jack’s phone is top of the range, but in 2007, the best it can manage is to make phone calls, send messages – thankfully without all those horrid emojis – and take grainy photographs that he can text back to someone else in a pinch. Phones that can capture video in high resolution, access the internet and pinpoint your location from anywhere are still years away. It certainly doesn't make his job easy at times having the computing power of a microwave in his pocket.

Still, the future isn’t all it’s cracked up to be either. Some of the things that humanity has invented have been dispensed with, pushing for a move towards a less complicated way of living. When Jack was just a boy, they didn't have any of the technological marvels of twenty-first century Earth, and Jack wanted for nothing but the sun on his face, the smell of the ocean and the love of his family.

For now, all Jack could do was embrace what there was and be grateful that life mattered more than technology.
