Summary: Jack is finding undercover work harder than he thought. A triple drabble.
Ianto heard the audible huff from Jack as he fidgeted on the other end of the sofa. Ianto kept on reading, slowly going back over the last few sentences at the bottom of the page before turning it.
Another huff.
‘Could you please huff more quietly?’ Ianto said. ‘I’m trying to read here.’
Jack squirmed on the sofa again. The television was on at a low volume – not enough to disrupt reading a book, but loud enough for Ianto to have ascertained that the couple featured on “Kirstie and Phil's Love It or List It” really had no concept of budgeting. ‘I’m going out of my mind here,’ Jack said.
Ianto set the bookmark in between the pages. ‘You chose this,’ he reminded Jack. ‘You could have sent any of us undercover to live in this domestic no man’s land, but you chose us. That means living here, in this nice, quiet neighbourhood. No gallivanting late at night chasing weevils or saving the world. Not unless you can manage it between the hours of 9am and 5pm.’
Jack groaned again. ‘I know,’ he said. ‘But Cell 114 are extremely dangerous. I need to be here.’
‘Then stop your complaining and just enjoy the peace.’
Jack moaned some more. ‘Couldn’t we at least be doing something more interesting than watching television or reading a book?’
Ianto curved an eyebrow at him. ‘We’ve done something more interesting for the last three nights in a row. Any more and Owen's going to have to prescribe some little blue pills to help me keep up with you. Don't need the neighbours thinking all we do is shag every night.’
‘They probably already think that,’ Jack replied.
Ianto picked his book back up, opening it to the marked page. ‘Then we’ll surprise them, won’t we?’
