torchwood100Summary: Jack can only think how lucky they are to have survived. A double drabble.
There was something deeply unsatisfying as Jack stood there watching the flames leap up from the large battered old firing barrel. Inside it were the last remains of the cyberman, being melted down but raw mother nature and a few added chemicals that ensured a complete atomic disassembling of every last circuit. Jack was taking no chances. Every last shred of the creature had to be destroyed.
As he watched it burn, not once did his mind drift to thoughts of Ianto and what he'd done, or who this person had been in their life before the cybermen took over and started converting. He was too fixated on the horror and destruction that had come so close to becoming a reality. Just one cyberman could quickly multiply into hundreds and then tens of thousands, growing exponentially. They could never be allowed to gain a foothold here or the human race would be forever wiped from the universe. And then from there the cybermen would spread, murdering in their millions, reaching every last corner of the galaxy and replicating like a disease.
He sucked in a hot smoky breath and coughed. Today they'd managed to stop the unthinkable. If only just.
