Jack has lived a thousand lifetimes
It seems hardly possible to condense the years
A lifetime or three in ordinary terms
But Jack isn't at all like any of his peers.
Something has changed him inside and out
Death comes and goes like a fitful night's sleep
Stuck in place as he his since the moment it came
Seeds sown long that now he must reap.
Immortal life has its advantages
In his line of work, danger never too far away
He will sacrifice himself, endure pain and more
If it means that his friends won't suffer the same.
Death is always there lurking in the dark
Jack feels its cold fingers reach out their claws
But slip away from their grip he always does
Living forever has become an immutable law.
To watch time slip away like grains of sand
To say goodbye to lovers and friends he holds dear
The price to be paid for never ending life
All else irrelevant for there is nothing left to fear.
