Summary: Jack knows what must be done. A double drabble.
Jack was worried even if he didn’t show it. The fluidity of time was something he didn’t like to mess with, but sometimes it was a case of doing something or letting the entire fabric of reality tear itself apart.
Tommy Brockless had been preserved for ninety years so that he could be here now to take on the task of fixing something that had been breaking slowly for as long as he’d lived. The mission directive given to Jack was clear. Tommy had to go back and close the fracture which was causing time to seep from 1918 to present day.
Torchwood had the technology. They had a rift key that could be used, but once it was, that would be it. Those in 1918 would remain there, along with the key. They only got one shot to get this right and to repair the damage before their timeline tore itself up, making their continued existences untenable
If Tommy couldn't do it, Jack knew what had to happen. He’d have to go back to 1918 and do it himself, making sure the key was activated. It was a risk – everything was a risk – but he couldn't ask anyone else.
