Summary: Jack is on thin ice, literally. A double drabble.
‘Sugar,’ Gwen swore, watching as the distinct, army greatcoat silhouette of her boss disappeared from view, falling straight through the ice-covered lake. One moment he'd been there and the next he was gone, leaving just a small black hole. The weevil was still out there, a half dozen yards ahead of where Jack had disappeared, crouched in the darkness, as if it were now painfully aware of the danger.
‘Jack!’ The voice behind her was almost beyond her as she grabbed for it before it could overtake her.
‘No!’ Gwen yelled as she grabbed at Ianto, stopping him. ‘If the ice couldn't hold him, it won't hold us either.’
‘But he's–’
‘I know!’
They held their breath for an age and then there was an explosion as Jack flailed and gasped, breaching the surface and clutching the edge of the hole. The weevil turned suddenly at the noise and then it too, dropped through the ice. Unlike Jack, it didn't surface again.
Jack struggled back onto the ice, crawling on his stomach back towards them, shaking uncontrollably. As soon as he reached them, they were tugging his coat off and hugging him to stop him shivering, their weevil hunt forgotten.
