Summary: Ianto doesn't need to say much. A double drabble.
Mugs slowly and silently made their way around the boardroom table, each finding its proper place in front of the person who preferred two sugars or extra milk. No one knew quite how Jack took his coffee, apart from the fact that it was black, and could be smelled from anywhere in the room.
There was a loud slurp from the head of the table. ‘Ianto, perfect as always.’
Ianto nodded. ‘Thank you, sir.’
‘Whilst we're running our morning briefing d’you think you could round up those case files? Everything we have on Arcateen language.’
‘Yes, sir.’
‘Plus anything else you can find. ‘
‘Yes, sir.’
Jack beamed. ‘What would we do with you?’
‘I don't know, sir.’
Owen rolled his eyes and groaned. ‘You've been here two months now. Do you ever talk beyond “yes, sir, thank you, sir?”
The room fell silent and all eyes turned to Jack, then Ianto, who blinked and paused. ‘I talk,' he said. 'I just haven't had the pleasure of a conversation with you that was worth offering up more words than are strictly necessary.’
After a beat Jack burst out laughing. ‘Owen hasn't learned yet that sometimes it's best to shut your mouth.’
