Summary: Jack can't get over his hatred of Flat Holm Island. A double drabble.
Jack hated having to go out to Flat Holm Island, Ianto knew. Whenever possible Ianto made sure to accompany him these days. Even so, Jack would be glum and despondent for days thereafter. He always seemed to blame himself for the place existing, unable to accept that he couldn't control the rift and what it did when it decided it had gotten bored of the people it played with. It was far better to have a place where they could live and be cared for than it had ever been just leaving them locked up in the cells.
Nevertheless, Jack's demeanour always turned dark as soon as they stepped foot on the island. It was like he'd left all his guilt and self loathing there to fester. It wrapped him in a welcoming cloak as he arrived and didn't shed itself until long after he'd returned home.
To Ianto, the place just felt sad. It wasn't as if its residents resented being there. Some didn't seem to understand that the world went on without them, others were too scared to imagine leaving. He wished there were more they could do, but some things were just too broken to be fixed.
