Summary: Owen can't help but wonder if only Torchwood had come along sooner. A double drabble.
Sometimes people needed a change of scenery or a new hobby to help them move on from tragedy. As trite as it sounded, Owen also knew that it could help. He'd seen enough death and bad news diagnoses to know how fragile the human mind could be.
As much as he didn't want to apply it to himself, he wondered when, or even if, Torchwood would ever help him move on from his own loss.
Katie had been his whole world and the longer he worked for Jack the more he began to question everything. If Jack had recruited him earlier, if he'd seen the things he'd seen and learned the things he knew now, would that have made a difference? Could he have spotted it before it happened, or been able to intervene before it was too late?
Life had been good and whole, if not perfect, but as good as anyone could have hoped for. All of it was stripped away, watching her steady decline and knowing that with the technology he now had access to, he might have been able to save her. Instead all he had now was a lingering sadness that just wouldn't go away.
