torchwood100Summary: Ianto is unsettled by their most recent guest's expression. A double drabble.
‘I don't like it,’ Ianto said, pouting as he stared down through the observation windows that overlooked the interrogation room. ‘I don't like it one bit.’
‘I'm only asking you to take some food and water down to eat,’ Jack said. ‘You don't have to make conversation. And, last I checked, food and drink were within your scope of duties.’
‘But it's creepy,’ Ianto complained. ‘Look at it, just sitting there and grinning like that. That's all it does; just grin maniacally with all those razor sharp teeth. It's like something out of a horror film.’
The creature must have heard them discussing it, because it chose that moment to look up towards the one way glass. Its toothy Cheshire Cat expression made Ianto jump backwards, knocking into Jack who grabbed him reassuringly.
‘It's not its fault,’ Jack replied. ‘It's just the natural pigmentation of its fur that gives it the impression of always smiling. And it doesn't have lips. That's just its resting face. Truth be told, it's actually sad to be stuck here, so far from home.’
Ianto peered through the glass again and the alien looked right back, as if it could see him. ‘Nope. Not convinced.’
