Summary: Torchwood's latest find needs some further analysis before a conclusion can be drawn. A double drabble.
Ianto tapped the containment unit with a curious finger as he stared through the clear reinforced plastic. ‘And you're sure it's not going to… hatch?’
‘We don't even know if it's an egg,’ Gwen replied, running scans to try and get a cross section analysis.
‘Well, it's egg-shaped,’ he said.’ Stands to reason, don't you think? And eggs have a tendency to hatch.’
‘We've got it in a temperature controlled unit,’ she told him. ‘I think it would need to be warmer inside to encourage anything to hatch.’
Ianto frowned and tipped his head sideways. ‘Is that wise? We could be putting a living creature in jeopardy by not keeping it warm enough to survive.’
‘Or it could be a bomb,’ Jack said, suddenly appearing with a pair of thick gloves and a face shield. ‘We won't know until I get in there and inspect it closer. But if it is a bomb, keeping it nice and cosy warm would be a really bad idea. Bombs tend to go off unexpectedly when they get overheated.’
Ianto took a large step back. ‘You might have warned us it could be a bomb!’
Jack shrugged. ‘Or it might just be an egg.’
