Summary: Owen is dealing with a difficult patient. A triple drabble.
‘I'm going nuts,’ Owen complained. ‘I've tried everything to get that alien to shut up and settle down short of shooting it full of sedatives. It will not stop making that God awful noise.’
Suzie tugged off a set of earmuffs. ‘What did you say, Owen?’
‘I said…’ He huffed. ‘Nevermind.’ Owen turned and looked around. ‘Where's Jack? He should be dealing with this nonsense, not us.’
‘Why are you asking me? I'm not his babysitter.’
‘And I'm not babysitter for this stupid sodding creature,’ Owen retorted. ‘If it's not going to shut up on its own I'm just going to walk away.’
‘What kind of human being are you?’ Jack asked, finally appearing out of nowhere. ‘You'd just abandon that poor creature to its misery?’
‘The only miserable one around here is me,’ Owen replied. ‘I haven't seen you hanging around having to listen to its constant wailing for the last three hours.’
Jack jostled past him down the steps to the small crib where the creature lay writhing about and crying its lungs out. ‘All it needs is a bit of a cuddle,’ he said, picking it up and hugging it tight to his chest. ‘There, there,’ he cooed. ‘Is the nasty doctor scaring you?’
Incredibly, within moments of Jack wrapping his arms around the creature and hugging it close to his body, it settled down and began making nothing but small gurgling noises. ‘See, Owen? All it needed was a little bit of love.’ Jack bounced it against his body, smiling and watching it giggle back. ‘Yes, aren't you just a happy little bundle of joy now? Yes, you are! Lots of cuddles for you!’
‘I think I may throw up,’ Suzie said, frowning at the over the top display.
‘Now that I can cure,’ Owen replied.
