Summary: Ianto doesn't always show that he's happy. A double drabble.
Sometimes the team accused Ianto of never being happy. It wasn't his high standards that he was trying to impose on the rest of them to be neat and organised – Jack accepted that Ianto had some form of mild OCD where things like being on time and always being neatly pressed were mandatory rather than optional. It was just his expression that made him look like he was always contemplating life's most challenging questions and then doubting that the answer would ever be life affirming.
Jack also knew to read beyond the permanent expression of seriousness. Under the surface there was a lot more emotion going on. Ianto could be entirely content without ever showing it. He didn't need a smile a mile wide to be happy. Ianto showed his joy in a hundred other tiny little ways that Jack was learning day by day.
After the day they'd had, Jack was looking forward to a reward for a job well done. End of the world crisis averted. And with perfect timing, there was Ianto, approaching his office.
What was he carrying? It looked… like a wing mirror from the SUV, with a CB radio taped to it.
Uh, oh…
