Summary: Ianto isn't allowed to keep secrets. A double drabble.
‘Seems like you’re settling into London nicely,’ Ianto’s mum observed. ‘Nice housemates and a nice girlfriend and all.’
Ianto nearly choked on his orange juice. ‘What?’
‘Have some more tatws,’ his mum replied nonchalantly, already heaping another large spoonful of mash onto his plate without waiting for confirmation.
‘I never said I had a girlfriend,’ Ianto told her, setting his glass back down.
‘No. I had to hear it from your sister,’ his mum said, scarcely a hunt of judgement in her tone. ‘Now why is that, Ianto?’
‘I didn’t tell her. She just sort of…’ Well, that was what she did best, wasn’t it? Dragged the truth out of him no matter how much he put up a fight. His sister always knew which buttons to push to extract what she wanted to know.
‘And you didn't think your old Mam would be happy to hear you’ve found someone special? After everything we’ve been through?’
God, it was an assault on two fronts now. ‘I just… didn’t want to get your hopes up. It’s still early days. Very early days,’ he reiterated, unwilling to admit that he thought Lisa might be the one.
‘Well, as long as you’re happy.’
