Summary: The hub at night can be a noisy place. A double drabble.
When darkness fell and the team left the hub at the end of the day, the place became anything but silent. There were a myriad of sounds that the hub made that were disguised throughout the day when the place was filled with activity and shuffling of humans around the space.
Ianto should have gone home, but he insisted on staying to keep Jack company, even if that meant just being there whilst Jack worked behind his desk, curled up on the battered sofa in Jack’s office, fast asleep.
Jack could hear the soft snoring, rhythmic and constant and reassuring. It blended seamlessly with the thrum of the subetheric resonator and the gentle trickle of water down the tower and into the pool beneath it, defying the notion that live electrical systems shouldn’t be kept in the vicinity of water. An old radio chattered away in the corner, adding to the din.
Jack had once hated the way the hub couldn't even give him a moment’s peace when he was here alone. Now, no longer did the walls feel like they were closing in around him, but rather more like a sanctuary, where he was safe from the world outside.
