Jack heard the plonk as the stone hit the water, sinking to the bottom.

The scene should have been spectacular, but the pristine sand and sparkling waters held no sway for him, nor the blazing orange sunset that glowed overhead. Even the pebbles didn't seem to skip over the water in quite the same way anymore.

Such fond memories he had of lying by the water's edge with his lover, impressing him with his stone throwing. Those lazy afternoons were made of magic; a magic he couldn't find here.

The entire universe wasn't vast enough to escape those memories now.
