Summary: Jack has fallen in love

Jack stood there admiring it. There were no two ways about it - it was just plain stunning. He wasn't leaving here without it.

It gleamed and it glistened, shiny and new. He thought that if he peered closely enough at it, he'd be able to see his own reflection. It was low, but not so low as to be a nuisance over low pitched slopes, and not so long that it would be a headache to move around in or park. The seats were a delicious charcoal and the leather was so soft it felt like butter as he brushed his hand over them. The dials and the displays were modern and high tech, but wouldn't look overly standoffish or out of place. They didn't have an air of superiority about them, like some might. More like they fitted in seamlessly - understated, yet functional. That was perfect. The outside was equally sleek without being showy. It said "I am class", rather than "I am ostentatious".

The man stood there, rattling off specifications that Jack wasn't listening to. Who cared about the technical details? He didn't even care about the price tag. He knew it was an outrageous sum to spend on anything at all, let alone this, and that Ianto would be furious at him for buying it. Still it didn't matter. He'd fallen in love with it, and it wasn't for him anyway. That part would get up Ianto's nose even more, because he could hardly refuse a gift, even a ridiculously expensive one. Jack had him hook, line and sinker on that front. He'd just have to like it or lump it, because this baby was coming home with him. If he couldn't spoil his lover every once in a while then what the hell was the point?

Of course it wasn't practical. Not in the sense that they could use it for work, which would be Ianto's primary concern, but they had the SUV, so what did they really need two work cars for? Plus they could always keep the Audi. This was for pleasure, and pleasure had to be practical as well. He'd already made sure it ticked the boxes on that front, ensuring that there was no awkward gear stick, and that the seats were fully retractable, with plenty of space in the back, and a roof that could open for those rare sunny days, letting the wind rip through their hair.

He didn't want to listen to the salesman anymore, he just wanted to cut the cheque and grab the keys. It seemed a shame to be the first one to get behind the wheel, but how else was he going to get it home and sneak it into their garage?

With the payment cleared and the insurances sorted, there was only one matter left. Which colour did he want?

Once again, he knew his choice would initially displease. Ianto was all about practical colours like black, or at least charcoal. There was a silver one too, and a deep midnight blue, that made Jack yearn to buy a matching pair, but in the end there was absolutely no competition. The one in the showroom had caught his eye the minute he'd walked in, and it was love at first sight.

Red. It had to be red.

Ooooh, flashy red convertible! Just what I always wanted! I'm sure Ianto will soon get over his annoyance!
