Gwen knocked gently before entering Jack's office and sitting down across from him.
His smile was warm and welcoming. 'What can I do for you?'
She gave a little shrug. 'Just thought we should catch up. It's all been a bit mad around here since you got back, what with John turning up trying to blow up the place.'
He chuckled. 'Yeah. Wasn't quite the way I planned it.'
She smiled briefly before staring down at her lap. Jack's eyes followed her gaze, watching her fingering the ring that now took pride of place.
'I guess this wasn't what you planned either, was it?' she asked, looking back up at him. 'Only you were gone, and we didn't know if you were coming back, and there was that kiss with Ianto, and I love Rhys, I really, really do, and-'
He reached across the desk and took her hand, noting how his body didn't tingle at the touch the way it used to. So much had changed.
'It's okay,' he said. 'I'm happy for you. Truly. We're just friends.'
'I want to stay here, working for Torchwood,' she added, hoping he'd agree.
'I can't think of anything I'd like more.'

Date: 2017-03-04 02:27 am (UTC)Aw, thank you. Jack had a lot to put to rights when he got back. Accepting that he and Gwen were never supposed to be a thing was one little niggling matter that in the end was easily set aside. She just caught him off guard when he spied the ring for the first time.
