Summary: Torchwood's paperwork is getting out of hand

This was getting out of hand, he thought, eyeing off the three huge lever arch binders full of unpaid and unreconciled invoices. For an organisation that despised red tape, they certainly created a lot of paperwork for themselves, or more to the point, for Ianto.

He was a fully trained field operative, responsible for cleaning and keeping them fully stocked and fed, including whatever residents that they happened to be accommodating at the time, a la Hotel Torchwood. Then there was maintaining the archives, making the coffee, side projects for this thing and that, plus the daily grind of saving the world from whatever the rift spat out. That didn't even include dealing with their affiliates in government, nor the brutal training regime Jack made them stick to. When you added all that up, allowing time for sleeping, and time for maintaining his relationship with Jack, who had time for invoices?

As it was, he'd tried to automate as much as possible, setting them up with a sophisticated program that would scan and import the invoices, dump it all into a program, and let him tick them off as they were paid, but it didn't help that Jack still liked using cheques, and half the time, he was bartering things that couldn't even go through a bank account. After all, what was a ten foot slime creature going to do with a direct debit facility? All it wanted was three months supply of chewy toffees and a copy of Barry Manilow's greatest hits to take back home with it. And just try getting a reciept for that kind of thing. Was it any wonder he spent four hours a week just trying to reconcile the damn bank accounts.

They definitely needed to find a way to outsource their accounting function.
