The bed next to him was empty when Ianto woke. He looked over at the clock. Why the hell was Jack up at five am on today of all days? Sighing, he got out of bed, wrapping his dressing gown tight against the chilly winter morning, and padding down the hall.

As he checked each room, everyone else was still asleep, just where they should be. No Jack going to check on them, or falling asleep in there himself, cuddled around one of their beautiful children. There was only one other place Jack might be, he decided, floating down the stairs. He came to a stop just outside their living room, finding his lover.

'And what do you think you're doing?' Ianto asked, leaning against the doorway, arms folded.

Jack looked guiltily back at him, knelt under the tree amongst all the gifts.

'Thought you'd get the jump on everybody else and open your presents first, did you?'

'Why should the kids get all the fun on Christmas morning? By the time we've done their presents, it's time to get dressed and start preparing Christmas lunch.'

'Come back to bed and maybe you can open one of yours early, then.'

Awww, poor Jack. Being a parent means putting yourself last; maybe they should start a tradition of opening a couple of presents before bed on Christmas Eve after the kids are in bed. Best of both worlds.
