'Follow that star!' Jack yelled, bouncing the SUV over the British countryside so hard that it jarred Ianto's teeth whilst he tried to follow their movements on his PDA.
'It's not a star, it's a crashing spaceship,' Owen replied, hanging onto his seat belt for dear life.
'It's Christmas eve and we're in the middle of nowhere, following a bright light in the sky towards someone in need.'
'And me without my frankincense,' Ianto quipped.
'Are we getting any closer?' Jack asked.
Ianto wanted to roll his eyes. Hard enough to track the erratic movements of a spacecraft falling from the sky, but having to coordinate them with Jack's driving? That deserved a medal.
The light grew brighter as Jack floored it, tearing up the suspension to try and meet it. This was so much better than sitting at home watching Carols in Hyde Park.
'Make sure you don't park us under it,' Owen reminded him. 'Don't fancy being squashed to death.'
The light was almost enveloping the countryside when Jack threw the SUV into a skidding halt. 'Here she comes!' There was a far too much glee in that voice, Owen and Ianto decided as they shielded their eyes against its brightness, waiting for the resounding crash. It ended up more of a rumbling skid, forcing the ground beneath them to shake like an earthquake.
'Couldn't have landed it better myself,' Jack said, complimenting the pilot.
'I don't think that's something to be proud of,' Owen muttered.
They walked over the short hill that stood between them and the spacecraft, noting the several dozen disgruntled sheep that had been residing in the area beforehand. As far as they could tell, no sheep had been harmed, though they did make their displeasure known.
Jack proceeded towards the ship, watching as a small side hatch opened, revealing the pilot. Oddly, he looked very human and not at all alien.
'Oh, thank the gods!' he said. 'I'm so sorry about the landing, but we've been trying to find a safe place to land for hours. My wife is having a baby, and when I say that, I mean right now at this very moment. Totally unexpected. Wasn't meant to arrive for two more weeks. Caught us completely unprepared. You couldn't help, could you?'
Jack grinned. 'Welcome to Earth. You're in luck. Owen here is a doctor. He'll be able to sort everything out.'
'You have delivered a baby before, haven't you?' Ianto quietly asked him.
'Not a human one, but hey, how hard could it be?' Owen said, stepping inside and following the screams. They didn't have to wait long until the screaming ended and Owen was cradling a small child in his arms, handing it over to one very relieved father.
'It's a boy,' Owen declared.
'Auspicious night to be born on,' Jack said. 'He'll grow up to do great things.'
'How do you know?' the man asked. 'Are you some kind of wisdom or seer?'
Jack shrugged. 'Nope. Just a feeling.'
