Summary: Ianto knows what Jack needs even before he does.
Ianto knocked politely on the door before entering Jack's office. He had a pile of files clutched in one arm, but more importantly, there was a familiar blue and white striped mug in the other hand, bringing forth what Jack was convinced was the most incredible smell on the planet, maybe even the universe.
'I come bearing gifts,' Ianto announced. He set the coffee down first, before attempting the files. In his mind, it was rather like handing out the good news before the bad.
'What are these?' Jack asked, curious about the files. 'I thought I was up to date on everything?'
'You are. These are for tomorrow. The first two are your briefing files for your monthly call with the PM tomorrow afternoon. The third one is Tosh's preliminary report on that sonic transducer we borrowed from UNIT. They'll be getting edgy that they haven't heard back from us and will no doubt start calling to ask what we're doing. I thought it might help if you did. I've also given Owen a hurry up on that autopsy of the Slorlk we picked up yesterday. It'll start stinking up the place if we don't move it soon.'
'Anything else?' Jack took a sip of his coffee and winced slightly as the hot sensation caused something in his mouth to twinge. It had only started up yesterday and he'd dismissed it as nothing, but now maybe he should be worried. He hadn't even mentioned it yet.
'Oh, and I booked you a dentist appointment for this Thursday at ten.'
Jack shook his head. 'How is it that you're able to anticipate my every need, Ianto? You know what needs doing even before I do.'
'Just well organised, that's all,' he replied.
Jack set his mug back down on the desk. 'Are you sure you're not a mind reader? Torchwood hasn't seen a mind reader in years, but that doesn't mean they're not still out there somewhere. They used to come beating down our doors, telling us all the things they'd seen and heard in people's minds. It certainly made tracking down aliens easier.'
'I'm no mind reader, sir. I'm just plain old me. Nothing special at all.'
'That's a matter of opinion,' Jack replied, grinning. 'If I didn't know better I'd say you have a sixth sense at the very least. Perhaps, and I say this on the assumption that you don't mind, we should give you some proper testing, just to confirm.'
He wasn't sure he liked the idea of being diagnosed a mind reader. People might try and start taking advantage of him, if it were even true. 'Whatever you think is a fair thing,' he replied instead.
'Can you tell what I'm thinking now, then?' Jack asked.
Ianto smirked at the question. 'Knowing you'd like me to strip and beg you to fuck me over the desk is not the same as being able to read your mind.'
'And yet you've anticipated my needs to perfection.'
