Notes: Some days at Torchwood are harder than others.

Jack watched silently from the corner of the room as Gwen slowly pulled down the papers from the wall. There were hundreds of them, and it was a harsh reminder of what the rift was capable of. All those lives destroyed and there was nothing any of them could do about it.

There was no consoling her after today, that scream still ringing in his ears even now. She was being too hard on herself, feeling she'd failed to reunite a mother with her son. The failing was all his, not having stopped her sooner, to save her the pain.

Stopping Gwen? This is where Ianto is smarter than Jack. No brick wall is big enough or wide enough to stop Gwen in this mood - Ianto knew to steer her in the direction of least damage to other people - and blow Jack's stupid and patriarchal secrecy out of the water.

If I were Ianto I wouldn't be wanting forgiveness from Jack any time soon.

Some secrets are just too big to keep hidden and too pointless to try and hide away from. I don't think Ianto expects forgiveness. He knew what he was doing. He'll keep Jack's secrets but only if it makes sense to do so.

No, Jack, you are so wrong! This was not your fault, it's all on Gwen for refusing to follow a direst order and thinking she knew best. Now she's made two people's already miserable lives even worse. Gwen deserves to hurt, she should, it's her fault, but she needs to stop feeling sorry for herself because she's not suffering anywhere near as much as Nikki and Jonah are. They're the ones she should feel bad for, not herself.
