Summary: Baking with Jack is always fun.
Ianto was in the process of setting the mixing bowls and measuring cups on the bench when Jack accosted him from behind.
'Whatcha doing?'
Ianto stood there for a second, letting Jack's arms wrap around him, debating whether to continue or to just let Jack do whatever it was he had planned.
'Baking,' he finally replied.
'Ooh, can I help?'
'Alright,' Ianto agreed, knowing that with Jack in the kitchen, helping was a term used loosely.
'Uh, okay, so I was just about to sift the flour, so why don't you beat the eggs?'
Ianto proceeded with scooping out the cups of flour, leveling them carefully off with his butter knife, before settling them into the sifter, gently tapping the powdery white into the bowl underneath. Next to him he watched Jack crack the eggs into a second bowl, pulling a fork out of the drawer to beneath them. He was quietly impressed by Jack's egg cracking skills, deftly breaking them in one easy motion. Sometimes the eggs defeated even him, their shells too hard, requiring several attempts to finally break, usually resulting in some small fragment of shell dropping in along with its contents.
This was nice, Ianto thought, having some quiet time alone at home with Jack, doing mundane domestic things. He passed Jack the carton of milk and he added a cup to the eggs, beating it as well.
'Ready for them?' Jack asked.
'Yup,' Ianto replied, having added the baking soda and carefully stirred it in.
'Okay, you stir, I'll pour,' Jack said.
Ianto should have known not to expect Jack to simply pour from the side, instead choosing to stand behind Ianto and slip his arms between Ianto's own, hugging him as he slowly poured wet ingredients into dry ones. Once they were in, he settled his hands on Ianto's hips, leaning over his shoulder to watch.
'You could be melting the chocolate while you're waiting,' Ianto said.
A quick peck on the cheek and Jack dashed back to the pantry for the chocolate. 'I hope there's some left,' he called out.
'Of course there is. I made sure before I started.' The better question was whether there'd be enough left for the cake after Jack was done with it.
'Stop eating it,' Ianto chastised, keeping an eye on Jack as he broke the small squares into the bowl, slipping the odd square in his mouth when he thought Ianto wasn't looking.
'Don't be a killjoy,' Jack said, stuffing in another piece. 'You said there was plenty.'
'Plenty if you stop eating it,' Ianto said, stealing the bowl away and shoving it in the microwave before Jack could steal anymore.
'We should do this more often,' Jack said, staring hypnotically at the bowl as it spun slow circles in the microwave.
'If only the rift agreed with us,' Ianto said, leaning back against the counter, dropping two teabags into cups and flipping on the kettle. He didn't need a full weekend every week, but at least one day a week for themselves would be nice. He had a mountain of things that needed doing at home.
When the microwave pinged, Jack lunged for it. Ianto thrust a tea towel at him before he burned his hand on the hot bowl. Instead Jack dipped a finger into the gooey contents and slipped it in his mouth, humming at the bittersweet taste.
Ianto rolled his eyes. 'Do I get some?' he asked. Jack dipped his finger in again, but where Ianto expected it to hover near his lips, Jack instead swiped it along his jaw.
'Hey!'
'Well, you said you wanted some,' Jack said, leaning in, slowly licking and kissing away the brown steak.
The sensation was nice, but Ianto grabbed the bowl whilst Jack was distracted, dumping it into the mix, stirring whist Jack was still nibbling his neck.
'Hey, I was enjoying that! And so were you if I'm not mistaken.'
'It'll taste better in the cake.'
Jack grabbed the spoon and shoved it in his mouth. 'Just one thing missing.'
'What's that?'
'You,' he said, delving his tongue into Ianto's mouth. Ianto could taste the mouthful of chocolately mix.
Nope, it had been missing Jack. Whilst Jack was kissing him, he dipped a finger in, swiping it on Jack's face
'Oh, you didn't!'
'Think I'm going to need another taste, just to be sure.'
Jack scooped up another spoonful of mixture, grinning. Lucky Ianto always made sure they had twice the ingredients they needed.
