Summary: Edd is tired of waiting. A double drabble.
Waiting was the worst part, he thought. Here they were armed with swords and crossbows, knives and pikes, yet there was nothing they could do at present. Far down below, he could see the red glow of the fires burning off in the distance, spewing forth acrid black smoke which couldn't be seen but could only be smelled. It was the precursor for the battle that was to come, Watchers versus Wildlings. Mance was bringing his entire army to bear, yet all they could do was stand atop the Wall and wait for it to come and meet them.
'What are you thinking, Edd?' Grenn asked him.
'I'm thinking I'm glad I'm up here and not down there with those poor bastards,' he said, pointing back over his shoulder at the opposite side of the Wall where he could already hear the clang of swords. Wildings attacking Castle Black from the wrong side of the Wall.
The sound of a horn rang out twice. Wildlings. He leaned over the icy rampart and saw tiny specs flooding forward.
'Nock those arrows, you cunts!' Ser Alliser yelled out along the Wall.
Their waiting was over. Now was the time to stand strong.
