Summary: Sometimes it's the little things that bring the most pleasure
'Terra firma for the first time in weeks,' Ianto said, stepping off the short ramp from the ship.
Jack stood beside him and leaned back, sniffing in a loud lung full of air. 'Oh yeah, smell that pollution. Isn't it great? Just like being back home.'
Ianto raised his own face towards the pale sunshine, soaking it in. You just couldn't beat the real thing.
'S'pose we should get our accommodation sorted,' Jack said. 'Settle in for a few days before the real work begins. We made good time getting here. Should leave us a few days to sightsee before the negotiations kick off.'
Good time, Ianto thought, with no small amount of amusement. Six weeks stuck in hyperspace and arriving a few days early was considered making good time? Just be grateful, Jones, he told himself. A few more days and you might have gone mad up there.
'Come on, 'Jack said, grabbing his hand. 'The hotel is meant to be just two blocks over that way.'
It didn't look fancy, but then again, they were getting paid reasonably well by the Shadow Proclamation to come and be here to negotiate a new mutual disarmament treaty. They couldn't expect them to also lash out on the finest hotel credit could buy. They could be here for weeks or even months before a final deal was brokered. They could always move back into their ship if they got tired, but it was always nice to stay somewhere different.
Jack pushed through the door and pressed the button on the desk.
'Still got the old reception model,' he noted. 'Isn't that quaint?' Most places they went these days had nothing more than a screen and a place to swipe your credit badge.
A small grey creature came out from behnd a side curtain. Must be a local, Ianto thought, remembering the voluminous amount of data he'd memorised on the planet's people and culture.
'We're after a room,' Jack said.
'Two singles or a double?'
'King, if you've got it.'
'And how long will you be staying?'
'Make it three weeks with an option to stay on. We're here on a contract. Could be a while.'
'Fine.'
'Can we please have a room with running water?' Ianto asked, butting in.
The receptionist quirked an eye at the pair of them and then gave a small vexed sigh. Earthlings. Such primitive creatures. 'That's an extra cost.'
'We don't mind.'
'So, that'll be one room, king size bed, running water. Anything else? Room service?'
'Oh, yes,' Jack replied. 'We probably won't be leaving for a few days,' he said, adding a wink.
'Very good,' the receptionist replied drolly, handing over the key card.
As soon as Jack had slipped the card into the door and let them in, Ianto headed straight for the bathroom. Thirty seconds later, Jack could hear the shower. He grinned, walking towards the bathroom and poking his head in.
'Someone's a bit keen for a shower.'
At first Ianto didn't reply, just standing there, letting the hot water run over his face and head. Weeks and weeks of nothing but waterless sonic showers had driven him crazy. He knew he was clean, but he never felt clean, like he was missing some vital piece of the puzzle. There was just no beating a good old fashioned scrub with soap and water.
'Earth to Ianto?' Jack called out.
'Just let me have a moment, will you?' he said, eyes closed. 'First real shower in weeks. Never thought I'd miss it so much.'
It was just so soothing, having the hot water running all over his skin, easing the tension out of his muscles, and defogging his mind in the cleansing steam. Sonic showers just couldn't do any of that. Maybe it was a thing of the dark ages in a universe full of technological wonders, but he'd happily wear the label caveman if it meant he could keep his hot water.
Jack tugged his clothes off and slipped in behind Ianto, hugging his body close as the water poured over and between their bodies. Mmm, it did feel good. He leant his head forward, stealing some of the hot jets of water as they pummeled his scalp, before turning up the heat a little bit more.
'Wish I could just stay here forever,' Ianto purred, leaning back against Jack's body.
'You'd turn into a prune,' Jack said, kissing his shoulder.
'Worth it,' Ianto replied.
'Well, we've got the room for a while, and there's no restrictions on how much water we use...' When had they last had proper shower sex?
Ianto reached back and wrapped his hand around Jack's neck, pulling him in for a kiss. 'I'm feeling very dirty, Jack. I think we're going to have to stay here for a long while until I'm clean.'
