Summary: Jack's lover won't stand for anyone messing with his town.
By the time they'd captured and restrained the aliens in the grounds of the castle Ianto was rightly annoyed. It was one thing having to deal with hostile aliens that came through the rift, but it was another thing entirely when they decided to get revenge on the city they'd been so ungraciously dumped in. It wasn't their fault Cardiff sat on a rift, but these aliens had been planning on blowing up the castle. Had they just asked, Torchwood might have helped them and sent them on their merry way. Instead, they'd worn out their welcome.
The team found the series of detonators just in the nick of time, Tosh deactviting them and beginning the process of collecting the actual bombs themselves from around the castle. She Owen and Gwen did this, whilst Jack and Ianto kept an eye on their new prisoners.
'Do you have any idea of the historical and cultural significancance of this castle?' Ianto lectured. 'It's stood for centuries, housing some of the finest Gothic revival architecture and artwork in all of Britain. You people, and I use the term loosely, nearly wiped out hundreds of years of Welsh history.'
'It's ugly,' the alien spat back. 'We were doing you a favour.'
'A favour?' Ianto only just barely sputtered the word out, growing more incensed by the minute.
'Filthy humans and your filthy excuse for art.'
Ianto went to reach for his gun, but Jack's reflexes were quicker, gripping him firmly and locking his hands at his side.
'You heard them, Jack. They planned this from the start.'
'And killing them won't help matters.'
'No, but it'll make me feel better. Besides, I wasn't planning on killing, just a little excruciating pain.'
It'd make Jack feel better too, but he couldn't say that. He was becoming a bad influence on his lover. He was rarely quick to anger, but you didn't stand between him and his heritage. Even Jack had to admit the castle was one of the better landmarks in the city, not as flashy as its modern cousins, but much more in line with the historical significance of the Welsh capital.
'Ianto,' Jack warned, his tone of voice broaching no argument. There was a small indiscernable huff and he folded his arms in defeat. Jack knew that he hadn't put out the fire, but that it was still smoldering deep within.
'You don't know how much it pains me not to let him have his way with you,' Jack said. 'I've grown to quite like this city and we don't take kindly to people who come here with the express intention of damaging it. But unlike you, we don't go around destroying things, so you'll be getting shipped back out on the very next rift opening.'
'Your rift is unstable,' the alien complained. 'We could end up anywhere.'
'Exactly. You'd better hope it's a tropical beach somewhere, or else you might end up some place where the locals think you're the ugly one.'
