Summary: Jack has a surprise for Ianto that will benefit both of them.
Ianto rolled his eyes as Jack led him forward. It seemed an exercise in futility, since Jack couldn't see him rolling his eyes. The blindfold he was being forced to wear was preventing it from being noticed. He couldn't see Jack and Jack couldn't see him. His mind drifted off into existential thoughts, questioning whether if you can't see, did you really roll your eyes, and if no one saw it, did it really happen? What was it they said about trees falling in a forest making a sound?
'Are we there yet?' Ianto asked.
'Not quite,' Jack replied. 'Keep going.'
'I'm not about to walk into a wall or something, am I?'
There was a reassuring arm wrapped around his waist, and the other settled by his elbow. 'Trust me,' Jack said. 'Would I ever let that happen to you?'
'Not intentionally, perhaps,' Ianto quipped back. This whole sensory deprivation was not his cup of tea. He wasn't that fond of surprises, either, come to think of it. Especially not the kind Jack devised. They usually always ended badly. He stopped in his tracks, feeling Jack judder to a halt beside him.
'Nope, you know what?' Ianto said. 'I've decided I don't want to know what your big surprise is.' He went to lift the blindfold off but his hand was arrested by a firm hand around his wrist.
'Don't be such a wet blanket, Ianto. Come on,' he said, coaxing him forward.
He let out a sigh. There really was no talking Jack out of things. The more you said no, the more determined he became to defy you.
Finally, Jack came to a halt. 'Are you ready, Ianto?'
'I can hardly wait,' he replied deadpan. 'The suspense is killing me.'
'Okay. Just remember this was the moment before everything changed.'
Ianto snorted. 'The twenty-first century is already here, Jack. Didn't you get the memo?'
'Har har. Alright, here it is.'
Jack tugged off the blindfold with a flourish, revealing the great surprise.
Ianto stood there transfixed. 'It's a door.'
'Yes, it's a door.'
'A door to a supply closet,' Ianto clarified.
'And?' Jack said, drawing out the observation.
'A supply closet we've used before. For less than work-related purposes.'
'Exactly,' Jack said, grinning. 'But what else do you notice about it, now?'
Ianto stared at the plain grey door. It looked just like every other door, excepting the code that designated its specific location. 'Oh, wait, there's a security scanner.' He frowned. 'Why do we need a swipe card for a supply closet? Do we have mop thieves in our midst?'
'You see, that's the trouble with you, Ianto. You never think outside the box.'
'I like the box.'
'You'll like this one better,' Jack promised. 'Because only two people have access to it now. That means no more being interrupted just when things are getting interesting.'
Ianto just shook his head. 'You really are all about the important things, aren't you?'
'Yep. Wanna try it out?'
