Summary: Jack doesn't mind sharing his treats on occasion.
'Are you sure you should be eating that?' Ianto asked as he saw the plate in front of Jack on his desk. You didn't have to be a genius to know what it was, the bright white fondant and silvery decorations lining the side of the white mud cake housed inside. It screamed wedding cake. Gwen's wedding cake, to be precise.
'It was going to go to waste,' Jack argued. 'At least someone should be enjoying it.'
Perhaps he had a point. By the time they'd dropped all of Gwen's wedding guests home, retconned and completely out of it, no one had given a thought to the wedding cake, not even the bride and groom. What should have been cut into neat little slices and bagged for the guests to take home was instead still sitting on the head table, untouched except for the one slice that Gwen and Rhys had cut from it.
It was a beautiful cake, three square tiers of perfection, each smaller than the one below it. Each layer was a different flavour, if he recalled correctly, remembering Gwen's endless discussions about all things wedding related. What had she said? Vanilla rum, white chocolate raspberry, and lime coconut, but all white mud cake. The base of each layer was wrapped in silver ribbon and the almond fondant coating was ornately decorated with details pressed into the icing and a delicate spray of violets dusted over the top. With the happy couple jetsetting off on their honeymoon it had seemed a shame to leave it abandoned there in the hall. Out of habit, he'd wrapped it up and taken it home with them, intending on giving the top layer back to Gwen when they returned from their honeymoon. It was tradition after all, to keep the top and freeze it for their first anniversary. The rest however was still in the fridge, where their resident sugar vulture had uncovered it.
'You should try some, Ianto. It's really good.'
Jack stood up from his desk taking the plate in hand and cutting off a Ianto sized piece before coming to stand in front of him, fork perched just inches from his lips. He sighed, knowing Jack wouldn't let him leave until he'd tasted it, tentatively leaning forward to pull it off the fork. It was good, tasting the rum and the vanilla, mixing with the almond icing, sweet but not too much so.
Jack must have caught the look on his face that said it was delicious. He should know, this was his third slice since breakfast, so he didn't mind sharing a little bit. 'Want some more?' he said, adding a little teasing suggestion that if he did, he'd have to let Jack feed it to him.
'I suppose,' Ianto replied, letting Jack cut away another piece, taking a cheeky bite himself before letting Ianto have the rest, the pair of them chuckling as Jack teased and tormented him with the fork, sometimes letting him have it and other times taking it for himself.
'You two are pathetic,' came the voice from behind then, Owen rolling his eyes and looking thoroughly displeased at having chosen this moment to have walked in. 'You'd think you were the ones who got married the way you carry on.'
'I'd have chocolate cake for my wedding,' Jack replied, ignoring Owen as he scooped up another piece with a thick layer of icing. 'Dark chocolate, with hints of coffee,' he adding, grinning stupidly, 'so that it tastes just like Ianto.'
'Oh, I don't know,' Ianto said, playing along. 'This one is pretty good, too.'
'We'd have both, then. Or one of every kind there is. A hundred layer cake that reaches all the way up to the stars.'
'God, get me a bucket before I vomit,' Owen said. 'Let's just be grateful that's never gonna happen.'
Jack grinned at him, before eyeing off the beautiful man standing right in front of him. 'Don't count your chickens. You just never know, Owen.'
