Challenge 517 - Full steam ahead

Notes: Jack is enthralled by the latest object to arrive through the rift. A double drabble.

'Oh, no way,' Jack uttered, his eyes lighting up as the object came into view as they crested the hill and descended into the valley below.

'That is easily the best thing that has ever turned up,' he said, though his teammates didn't seem to share his enthusiasm. He was quickly out of the car just as soon as Ianto had brought it to a stop, jogging over to inspect it.

It was a steam train, glistening in the morning mist, complete with for long carriages, just sitting there at the bottom of the valley as if it had been left there and forgotten.

Jack pulled himself up into the engine house and beamed out at his team. 'I've always wanted to drive one of these! I've captained ships and piloted planes, but a train would be a first. What do they call someone who drives a train?'

'A train driver,' Ianto replied.

Oh. That didn't sound anywhere near as exciting as he'd expected.

'It's got coal,' Jack reported. 'We just need to stoke a fire and we could get her going.'

'Now if only we had a narrow gauge railway that ran between here and the hub,' Ianto quipped.

What a cool find! I don't blame Jack for being excited.

Trouble is, they have no way of moving it from where it is and nowhere to put it anyway.

They should probably check to make sure nobody's on board.

I'm sure that with the right equipment they could transport it to some local train museum who could look after it. Jack will have to live with visiting it on weekends so he can play train driver. :)
