Summary: Rhys thought he'd be happier once Torchwood was out of their lives. A double drabble.
Rhys glanced across at Gwen whilst keeping his eyes firmly fixed on the wet and winding road ahead. One more quick glance in the rear vision mirror to check on Anwen, sleeping peacefully in her seat before it was eyes front and centre.
'You're thinking about it again,' he said, slowing the car to take the long arc around the mountainous road.
'I'm not,' Gwen lied, keeping her gaze locked on the view outside her passenger seat window.
Rhys wanted to say more but clamped his jaw tightly instead. On the move again, he thought. Another tinpot town in the middle of North Walian nowhere. Another caravan or run down cabin, no doubt. Another set of keys with Ianto's neat penmanship, dictating the address and nothing more. Another hideout for them, away from the world they knew.
He felt for Gwen, he really did. This wasn't how it was meant to end. His wife deserved more for all the sacrifices they'd made. Instead, the one job she'd loved more than anything was gone. Her best friends dead, her boss abandoning them. No more Torchwood, no more aliens.
He thought he'd be happy about that, but both of them were miserable.
