Summary: Last night's activities have left a trail of evidence in their wake.
'D'you have a date last night?' Owen asked as he walked past Ianto to grab a box of items he'd requested be retrieved from the archives.
'What?' Ianto replied, looking up from what he was working on.
'A date, Teaboy.' Owen pointed to the back of his neck. 'You've got a hickey.'
Ianto frowned and reached back to touch the spot Owen was indicating. Then the memory of last night came back to him, replaying in perfect detail, as he felt Jack's hungry mouth peppering his jawline with kisses, before moving lower. Then things had gotten more desperate and rough, and he remembered Jack's teeth biting into the soft skin as he touched Jack places he enjoyed. He'd quickly reciprocated, loving the little hisses of pleasure Jack uttered each time he nipped all those tender pieces of flesh with his teeth.
'Not a hickey,' Ianto quickly lied. 'Probably from that minor rift alert last night,' he added.
Owen paused and stared at him. 'What rift alert?'
'It was nothing important. Didn't need the whole team there.'
'Okay. So who went?'
'Just me and Jack.' He couldn't afford to drag anyone else into his lie.
'Oh? And since when do you and Jack go out on rift alerts?' Owen asked, sounding miffed.
'Since it was only two blocks from my flat. Jack called and asked me to meet him there. It was late.'
'Oh. Well, I suppose that's fair,' Owen said, some of the indignation leaving him. He really didn't like those late night call outs. If it meant staying in bed and letting some other schmuck deal with it, so much the better. 'What was it?'
'Bugs,' Ianto replied. 'Alien bugs.'
'I should take a look at that, then,' Owen said, stepping closer.
Ianto quickly took a step back, putting distance between them. 'It's fine. Jack said they're harmless. Nothing to worry about.' He really didn't want Owen getting a closer look at anything.
Owen back away slightly, sensing Ianto's discomfort. 'Do you have bites anywhere else?'
'I'm not stripping for you if that's what you're implying.'
'Okay, okay, settle down,' Owen said, sensing Ianto's rising irritation. 'Just asking. If they get itchy or sore or you feel unwell though, I want you to come see me.'
'Yes, mum.'
As soon as Owen was out of sight, he grabbed his phone and flipped on the camera, tying to angle it behind his head to get a better look at the mark. Snapping a photo of it, he could see how angry and red it was. If he looked too closely, he was sure he could see Jack's teeth marks. Bloody hell. He might have enjoyed it last night, but the consequences were not so pleasant. He only hoped that his own efforts hadn't left any lasting marks on Jack. He should probably sneak a look next time he was in there, just to be sure. Then he saw Owen heading directly toward Jack's office. He bolted from his desk and started compiling reasons to go over there in his head.
'Morning, Boss,' Owen said, barely bothering to knock.
Jack spied the collection of folders in Owen's arms. 'Don't tell me you've actually finished those.' He'd only been nagging for days.
'Better late than never. There's some here you haven't even asked for yet.'
'Now I know the world is ending,' Jack joked.
Owen dumped them on the desk, enjoying the notion that having all of his work done would now mean Jack would have to review it all. He hated paperwork even more than Owen did.
'Looks like you had a rough night last night,' Owen said, spotting the red bite mark under Jack's jawline, right near his jugular vein.
'Huh?'
'The hickey bugs,' Owen replied. 'You've got bites, too.'
'He's referring to those alien bugs that turned up in Grangetown last night,' Ianto said, suddenly standing there in his doorway, clipboard in hand, looking officious. 'You know, the ones that caused these bite marks,' Ianto said, pointing to his neck and praying to every God imaginable that Jack would take the hint and lie for all he was worth.
'Oh, yeah,' Jack replied, seeing the slight look of panic in Ianto's eyes. He'd spotted the mark in the mirror this morning, enjoying remembering how he'd earn it. Part of him just wanted to come right out and tell Owen the truth. He and Ianto were sleeping together. He didn't think it was a big deal, but he also knew how Ianto felt about the rest of the team knowing that. He didn't want to upset the apple cart. Not when the apple cart was letting him come over at night to crawl into his bed. The only alien bug that had been in Grangetown last night had been him. 'Big bugs. Nasty teeth. We gave as good as we got though, right Ianto?' Jack grinned as he watched the young man flush red at the double entendre.
'They shan't be trying that again,' he replied as a warning.
'Got a sample I can study?' Owen asked, sounding genuinely interested.
'Sorry,' Jack apologised. 'Like butterflies. Only live for a few hours then die.'
'A dead sample would still have been better than no sample.'
'Don't worry, Owen,' Jack said. 'These things are all over the universe. They're bound to come through the rift pretty regularly, I'd say. Won't be the last time someone gets bitten in the heat of the moment.'
He directed his grin past Owen and towards Ianto who sighed inwardly. He should have known there was no chance of convincing Jack that anything above the collarbone was now strictly off limits.
