Summary: Tosh and Ianto bemoan their lack of a social life.

'What are you still doing here?' Ianto asked, catching Toshiko by surprise.

She checked her watch. She knew she'd gotten absorbed in what she was doing, but it was a lot later than she expected. 'You know me,' she replied, trying to brush it off. 'I just love my job.'

'It's almost midnight,' he said, checking the contents of the desk behind him, before sitting back against its edge. 'You should have gone home hours ago.'

She gave a despondent little sound, agreeing with him. 'Nothing to rush home for. Not like I've got a boyfriend or anything.'

'Oh? Whatever happened to that Greg fellow at UNIT?'

She smiled. Greg was very sweet, and possibly the first person Tosh had ever met who didn't go blank when she started talking. If anything, he was likely to talk about things even she struggled to understand. He wasn't unattractive either. Her brief stint in London was something she'd treasure, as would be the dinners they'd had, and that kiss he'd given her on her last night before she'd had to leave.

'We still exchange emails,' Tosh replied. 'But I don't see it really going anywhere. We're so far apart, what with me here in Cardiff and Greg back in London. One of us would have to give up our jobs to make a go of it.'

'That's a pity,' Ianto said. 'UNIT would be hard-pressed to find a replacement when he moved to Cardiff.'

Tosh laughed at that. Of course, there'd be no way Jack would ever let her go. It would have to be the other way around. 'I could say the same for you,' she observed. 'How come you're still rattling around here?'

He gave her one of those charming little smiles, along with a sigh. 'I thought maybe we'd have a quiet night, but Jack's gone God only knows where, so here I am, sitting around like some puppy waiting for its master to come home. More than a little pathetic, don't you think?'

She reached out and placed a hand on his arm. 'Don't be silly. I think it's sweet. I'm sure he'd be here if he could. He'd want to, is what I mean.'

'Like Greg?' Ianto countered, raising an eyebrow at her.

'It's different for you two. You are together.'

'As proven right now.' He said it with a smile though, and not any sort of bitter resentment.

'What a tragic pair we make, huh?'

'Maybe we should ditch them both and hang out together,' he suggested. 'That'd teach them a lesson.'

'Hey! Are you two talking about me again?' came the yell from Jack who had just come sweeping into the hub, his arms laden with boxes.

'What could we possibly have to say about you?' Ianto quipped.

Jack pulled a face. 'Well, maybe you don't want these pizzas I just bought. I knew you'd both still be here, working your arses off.'

'Well, that's a sad indictment,' Ianto replied. 'Even Jack thinks we're tragic.'

But at least he's willing to feed you! That has to count for something.

He knows them too well and makes sure that he looks after them in his own way.
