Summary: Castle Black is much different to how Jon imagined it.

Jon tried to tell himself that living at Castle Black was no different to living at Winterfell.

The cold was a permanent feature here, rather than something that came and went with the seasons. Except the walls of the castle weren't lined with steam vents that kept it warm.

Nor were the people here like the friendly ones who served their lord. Though these men were meant to be his future brothers, they were nothing like his real brothers.

In fact, there was nothing familiar here at all. He truly was at the ends of the earth and completely alone.
