'Have you got that flux generator for me?' Tosh greeted Ianto as he came up towards her with a small box in his arms.
He gave her a curious look. 'Of course,' he said, setting it carefully down on the desk, 'but aren't you meant to be on holidays?'
She smiled back. 'That's tomorrow. I've still got a few things I want to finish up before I go.'
Ianto checked his watch, noting the lateness of the hour. 'It almost is tomorrow.'
'I won't be too much longer,' Tosh assured him. She caught his eyes drift over her shoulder at the computer screen.
'Still haven't unraveled the mystery of the blip?' he asked.
'It's called the Pulse,' she corrected.
'I still like Blip.'
His sense of humor made her smile. He liked naming things and she had to admit, The Blip did sound better than Pulse.
'I think you've managed to requisition just about every piece of technology we have lately,' Ianto observed. 'Should I be worried about all this extra time you're putting in?'
'Like you don't,' she countered.
'Point taken,' he replied, 'though these days it's mostly hanging around, hoping Jack is going to come back at night and not go wandering off again.'
'Things are different now,' she said. 'He was only trying to protect us.' She could sympathise with Jack. At every turn in their investigations against the Committee they'd come up against a wall. It was frustrating at best, scary more often than not, just how deeply connected they were. Her own eyes drifted over to the small flash drive next to her keyboard. It was an encryption key, and gave access to everything Jack had uncovered about Neil Redmond and his doppelganger AI. Information she was going to hand over to the KVI if they came good on their promise to help her. She couldn't tell anyone the real reason why she'd asked for a week's vacation and Jack hadn't questioned her about it, simply stating it was high time she took a break.
Ianto sighed and shoved his hands in his pockets. 'Think I'll go home to bed,' he said, stifling a yawn.
'Sounds like a good idea,' Tosh replied. 'I'll see you next week.'
'Next week,' Ianto confirmed. He took a few steps then turned back, frowning at the generator. 'Just promise me you're not going to get mixed up in any of this Committee business.'
Tosh stifled a laugh. 'Ianto, I'm going on vacation.'
He fixed her with a firm stare. 'Promise me, Tosh.'
She knew all too well how his own misadventures with the Committee had played out, and Jack had only just come back, looking rattled and seemingly having come off second best against them himself, at least for the time being. She rested a hand on his arm. 'I promise,' she said, justifying it in her mind that it wasn't a lie. After all, Zone Ten and the Pulse couldn't possibly have anything to do with the Committee.
