Summary: Jack lets himself be taken in by John, but he just can't help himself.
'What took you so long?' John asked, grinning placidly at Jack as he entered the bar. 'Your drinks are getting warm,' he added, indicating the six hypervodkas lining the bar.
'Three weeks,' Jack replied, his expression stony. 'Three weeks locked up on one of their detention barges until I could convince them I was innocent.'
John tipped back his drink. 'Well, it's not like you were. I thought you were a better liar, though.'
'A little hard for them not to believe me, don't you think? After all, how many crooks leave their partner behind, locked up in their now empty vault, hoping they'll take the fall for it? Pretty tough to say you were complicit in the act when they turn your pockets out and find you haven't got so much as a sapphire in them.'
John swirled his glass, watching as the silver concoction twinkled in the light. 'Am I detecting a hint of bitterness, Jack?'
Jack scowled at him. 'I can't imagine what could possibly make you think that.'
'There's no honor among thieves, you know that Jack. You think I'd risk the payout just to make sure you got out of there okay?' Jack's eyes turned to ice at the comment, but John only found it amusing. 'Oh, sit down, for goddesses sake. The first six rounds are on me.'
Jack slumped onto the stool next to him, throwing back two of the hypervodkas. 'So, you've got my money, then?'
John smirked at him as he turned to face Jack. 'Well, that all depends on your definition I suppose. I mean, I did have it.'
Jack balled his hand up into a fist but held it back for now. 'My money, John. Where is it? Half of that payout was mine.'
John scoffed. 'You took too long. Three weeks in the Vegas Galaxies is a long time. I had to do something to pass the time. Things around here don't come free, you know.'
'You spent it?' Jack cried, incredulous. 'All of it?' There'd been enough jewels in that vault to set them both up for years. John could have at least counted cards or done something to double their money. Instead he'd taken advantage of his circumstances, which had largely involved taking advantage of Jack. Some much for being partners in crime.
'Believe me when I tell you I enjoyed it enough for the both of us. One of them enjoyed it so much, she stopped insisting on being paid for it. I'm sure we could tee something up. She struck me as the threesomes and moresomes kind.'
Jack leaned his elbows on the bar, taking his time with the glass in his hand. 'They'll be wondering why we haven't checked in at base for our next assignment,' he muttered.
John rested a hand on Jack's leg, rubbing it up and down, closer and closer to his groin. 'They can wait a little longer. I've got a reward for you that won't cost us anything.'
