Summary: Jon's journey ends right where it began. A double drabble.

Jon pulled up the horse outside the weather worn black gates. The sound of crunching snow under the hooves of two more horses behind him came to a halt.

‘End of the road for you, Lord Snow,’ one of the men observed.

His gaze drifted beyond the gates and to the towering wall of ice that stood behind them. End of the King’s Road, perhaps, he thought. End of the world as far as most were concerned. Fine justice for having killed a queen, to be removed from the world he’d tried to protect. It was probably for the best. Having left Castle Black in the first place had brought him nothing but trouble.

Lord Snow, he mused. No matter what he did, the name wouldn’t go away. He didn’t want to be anyone’s lord. Take no wife, father no children, and most of all, lead no people.

‘You going to stand out here all day?’ the man asked.

‘It’s not gotten any warmer,’ Jon replied, trying to make a joke.

‘It’s the fucking north.’

Jon gave a wan smile. ‘Not the real north.’

‘Cold enough as makes no matter.’

Jon nodded. Good. The cold would suit him just fine.

Nice imagery. And I like the idea of Jon seeing the Wall now as more of a refuge than an exile.
