Title: Good company
Author: m_findlow
Characters: Jack, Captain Jack Harkness
Rating: PG
Challenge: 560 - Shell at tw100
Notes: For Jack, being stuck in1941 isn't so bad. A double drabble.
A rain of concrete dust fell from the roof overhead. Jack looked up and prayed that it held. In theory it should. The Ritz had survived the Blitz bombings. It was still standing in 2006 when they'd passed through the rift in time. It didn't stop him worrying however about how malleable time could be. Their presence in this timeline alone could be enough to change things permanently.
'Wish I'd brought my drink down here with me,' Captain Harkness said, trying hard to look anywhere but straight into Jack's eyes. There was a nervousness to his voice now that they were so closely watched in the crowded room.
'Should've brought the whole bottle,' Jack replied. 'Germans could be shelling us all night.'
'Not quite what I had in mind for my boys tonight.'
From an alcove in the next room, the strains of a clarinet started up, and soon after the band's attractive singer joined in.
'At least we've got music,' Jack said, turning around to watch as the sound began to calm the nerves of the young ladies huddled in the shelter beneath the ballroom. 'And good company.'
Captain Harkness relaxed into a small smile. 'Very good company indeed.'
