Summary: Nothing seems to be going to plan today.

Owen stormed past Jack, nearly bowling him over as he strode towards the exit. Had it not been for the fact that the walkway across the middle of the hub had a guardrail, Jack might have found himself swimming in the rift pool.

'Something bothering you, Owen?'

Owen twirled and set his hands on his hips, his expression thunderous. 'Yeah, as a matter of fact there is. Some prick has gone and put a great big dent in the side of my car door. I just went to check the CCTV for the car park to find out which bastard did it, but guess what?'

'No CCTV?'

'No CCTV,' Owen replied. 'Because we decided we didn't want people seeing us coming and going from the car park with crazy alien shit through the secret entrance down there. That car cost me a bomb.'

'It's just a car.'

Owen growled at him and stormed off, still muttering expletives even if no one else was listening.

Jack continued to walk toward his office until he spotted Ianto at his own desk, keeping his head down. It was remarkably unlike him not to have a witty comment for Owen and his predicament. It made Jack pause and think it over. 'Ianto?'

He looked up at Jack, his expression totally inscrutable. 'Yes?'

'Weren't you down there earlier this morning bringing in that crate of artifacts UNIT dropped off for us?'

'Yep.'

'Did you happen to notice if Owen's car was dented at the time?'

'Yep.'

The single word responses intrigued Jack. 'And did you happen to see who might have dented it?'

'Yep.'

Jack sat down on the desk and leaned over so that they were only inches apart. 'Wanna tell me who?'

Ianto's eye darted left then right to make sure no one else was within earshot or capable of reading lips. 'I might have knicked it with the trolley on my way back in. It's what you get for parking too close to the entrance.'

Jack grinned to himself. That explained the coy behaviour. 'And you weren't going to tell him it was you?'

'Do I look like a man with a death wish? I already called a guy from the repair shop to come down and sort it out. They have these special suction cup things that fix dents in no time. Only I didn't expect Owen was going out again and that it'd be fixed before he noticed.'

Jack folded his arms over and shared a conspiratorial grin. 'That's very sneaky and underhanded of you.'

Ianto appeared completely unfazed by the admission. 'I prefer to call it stealthy.'

'Well, just between you and me, can I suggest maybe you should throw one of those guys from UNIT under the bus?'

'That's sounds very dishonest, sir.'

Jack chuckled. 'I prefer to call it looking after my interests.'

Ianto considered which parts of him Owen would like to tear off if he admitted it and found Jack's choice if words somehow apropos.

Jack is very wise, he's probably been in similar situations. Besides, blaming UNIT is always a good idea.
