Summary: Jack is worried that date night hasn't gone well.
'Pull over the car, Jack,' came Ianto's instruction.
Jack frowned. 'Why? We're only ten minutes from home.'
'Just do it.'
Jack knew better than to argue with his lover when he started barking orders, pulling over to the curb of the quiet residential street and pulling on the handbrake. 'You wanna tell me what this is all ab-'
He didn't get to finish the question before Ianto had a fistful of his shirt and was dragging him forward into a fierce kiss. It only took Jack a second to respond, relaxing into the motion as their tongues intertwined. Ianto's free hand snaked up around his neck to keep him close, though it was unnecessary. Jack wasn't going anywhere.
When they finally broke apart Jack felt breathless.
'Thank you for tonight,' Ianto said, keeping a hand on Jack's cheek.
Ah, so that's what the kiss was for, Jack thought. Tonight had been the first official invitation over for dinner with Ianto's family. Thinking he'd done okay and having it confirmed by a random act of lust were two very different things.
'I don't mind telling you I've been a complete nervous wreck all night,' Jack confessed.
Ianto chuckled. 'Nervous? You? It was a very good act you put on if that's the case.'
Jack bristled slightly at Ianto's inference that he had nothing to be nervous about. On the contrary, he felt like everything was on the line. Ianto had been stalling this moment for months, telling Jack he was still working on his sister and building up to the moment when he was going to fess up about the two of them. Then everything had gotten messed up with the invasion of the 456. It had taken months to repair their own relationship in the aftermath, and by then, Ianto's sister was fully aware that they'd been a thing, and then sort of not a thing, and now they were back together properly, as was the whole Torchwood team.
Jack had spent the entire night walking on eggshells, or so it felt. He made sure to remember all his P's and Q's, and to eat slowly and carefully, pausing often for a sip of water or to use his napkin. Jack knew how Ianto felt about his manners so they got extra attention. On the flip side Ianto got less attention. Jack didn't want Rhiannon catching him staring at Ianto all night long. This was meant to be about him meeting them, taking an interest and finding out all about the family Ianto hardly ever talked about. He hoped he hadn't been too nosy or asked too many questions, and that he'd said the right things in reply.
'Come here,' Ianto said, pulling him forward and kissing him softly again. 'I couldn't wait another second to thank you for being so amazing tonight. I really wanted Rhiannon and Johnny to like you.'
'What's not to like?' Jack said, brushing off any residual fears.
Ianto smiled lovingly. 'I couldn't agree more.'
