Summary: Kathy wishes Torchwood would stop being so nice.

Kathy cringed at the large box left on her doorstep. At this time of year, she knew it could only be one thing. She dragged it inside and shut the door, pulling her dressing gown tightly around her middle as she stared balefully down at it.

Why did Torchwood always insist on sending her a present for Christmas? It wasn't like she returned the favour, nor did she really want it in the first place. It didn't seem to matter how much of a pain in her arse they were all year long, she didn't think sending a gift once a year was going to cut it for all the times she'd gotten chewed out by the brass for them having come in and taken over her investigations, or for compromising evidence at the scene when they just barged on through like they owned the place.

To make matters worse, and though she hated to admit it, the gifts she received every year were actually quite thoughtful and rather useful. Jones was responsible for that, she was sure. Captain Smart Arse would never be so considerate.

Relcutantly she tugged open the box, wondering what it could be this year, revealing the slow cooker tucked inside. "So it won't matter how late you finish work or how long we keep you tied up at the scene." read the card inside. Damn. Just when she thought they couldn't possibly outdo last year's foot spa and expensive bath salts. Luckily she'd never been asked whether she liked the gift, forced to lie about how useful it was.

She sighed at the box. It was such a shame it was going in the cupboard, never to be seen again, just on the sheer principle of the thing. It was a really nice slow cooker.
