Summary: Jack has plans to extend their Christmas lunch guest list.

Ianto knew he had a right to be worried when Jack could be heard clattering about in their kitchen. Especially on the one day of the year when he was usually fixated not on what was in the fridge, but rather what was hidden under their tree.

'Jack, what are you doing in there?' Ianto asked, catching him halfway between the kitchen and the dining room, his arms laden with plates. 'I've already set the table, or hadn't you noticed?' Ianto frowned at his red crockery being replaced with their white set with the gold trim. 'Why have you swapped them over?'

'I felt like white as a colour scheme this year,' Jack replied.

Ianto didn't believe him for a second, noticing the tall pillar candles in their shiny gold  centerpiece setting - the ones that only came out for extra special occasions. They ate off white plates every night of the year. Christmas was one time when going bold and red was totally acceptable. 'And what's with the candles and the good China? Four sets laid out instead of two?'

'It looks silly with just two,' Jack argued. 'Four looks much better.'

'Don't think I don't know you're up to something, Jack Harkness.' He watched as Jack's lies crumbled out from underneath him.

'Okay, so I might have invited over a few extra people for Christmas lunch. It was meant to be your big Christmas present surprise.'

'And you didn't think I'd know something was up when you start putting out the good stuff?'

Jack looked sheepish. 'Honestly, no. I assumed you'd just expect that for Christmas anyway.'

'Your clever ruses need work,' Ianto replied.

'No. You just need to not be so damn clever.'

'So, who are our extra guests?'

'Ha! Now that is going to stay a surprise.'
