Seasons greetings to all!
Dec. 25th, 2019 05:35 pmChristmas wishes and festive greetings to everyone out there. I hope you all have a wonderful day, whatever you have planned.
Special Christmas wishes in no particular order:
badly_knitted - who has single-handedly in the last month read and commented on pretty much everything I've written in the past two years (I will get back to you on these!). Thank you for your continued kind words and support, and for even enjoying the crazy new future Torchwood team I have been building. I promise I will continue to write more to bring these characters to life for you.
jo02 - serial lurker and TW fanfic reader. Your dark sense of humour is often on my mind when writing, so I hope you enjoy the dry humour and sometimes cracky behaviour I put these characters through. I know there are a stack of prompts I've promised to fill or stories to finish. I willget to them all (one day...)
mscatmoon - thanks for rejoining the Torchwood fanfic realm. Hope to see more of your work again next year!
enchanted_jae - your posts and pictures always brighten my day, and power to all the single ladies out there! One day I will finally work my way through mum's genealogy files to figure out where the McKennas in your family could intersect with mine. :)
To all the other folks who take time out of their day to keep comms running and fresh writing flowing -
alafaye,
sweptawaybayou,
love_jackianto, etc. - thank you all.
And finally all the other f-listers -
cyberiad_queen,
beesandbrews,
too_beauty,
missthingsplace,
milady_dragon and all the other writers and lurkers - happy reading, happy writing, and happy festive season!

Date: 2019-12-25 11:07 am (UTC)No need to reply to all my hundreds of comments, I don't expect you to and I'm not getting any email notifications from LJ at present so I'm not sure I'd even see any replies =( I just can't read something I enjoy and NOT leave a comment *hugs* I'm determined to catch up on everything I've missed and not get so far behind in future. My resolution for next year is to allow myself daily reading time, so I figured I might as well get a head start *grins*

Date: 2019-12-25 10:49 pm (UTC)I definitely need to make time for reading too! I haven't read anything this year apart from my book club books.
This year was just nuts, what with the first six months being sick and the last six with no staff at work. I've barely had time for writing. I come home and I'm too knackered for anything. I will just make my 350k target this year, falling over the line at the death. Still so much on my WIP document I wanted to finish this year, and to work on some bigger projects (I don't think I did any this year).
Hopefully next year will be better. I will pledge a lot less to take the pressure off and try to enjoy what I'm writing rather than just struggling to meet deadlines.
I love all the comments so far. It's making me go back and read some of what I've written which is a lot better quality than the recent stuff. Most if it I couldn't even remember writing, and it didn't turn out half bad, so that's a pleasant surprise! :)

Date: 2019-12-29 12:03 am (UTC)You just never know! Lol. All I remember was mum saying there was a bunch of quakers that moved to the US a hundred years or more ago, but I don't know if they were McKennas, Owers, Jacksons or other. :)

Date: 2019-12-27 08:39 am (UTC)Yes, I feel guilty about doing so much lurking this year. I definitely read every story that is posted, even if it takes me 6 months or more to get to the really long ones. I hope you get the chance to write more really long stories this coming year because they give your writing a real chance to shine.
And yes you make me smile quite a bit when I can see a paragraph, a scene, or even a single sentence that I know has been written 'for me', for want of a better phrase.
The other thing I have enjoyed seeing is the way you have explored Gwen's character over this last year. Of the five of them, whether you like her or not, she is the most complicated and interesting character. I've enjoyed seeing you write her from my perspective, and then write her from your perspective, and then write her from a perspective I would never have considered, bending my brain quite out of shape. I love it.
I will try and write some more this coming year, and definitely try and comment more - be less of a lurker, more of a participant. Cheers.

Date: 2019-12-28 11:38 pm (UTC)I'm hoping for more longer fics next year, too! I have a handful that I've started and never progressed, plus ideas for stories to get my new characters front and centre into the TW verse. I probably need to tackle those in order so it all makes sense who comes in when. I'll drop my word count pledge right back to ease pressure on putting out volume week after week, but there's still plenty of comms that need weekly entries and it gives me the kick up the backside every weekend to get them done.
I'm always amused by our Gwen conversations. She has a lot of haters but I don't see her that way. I just tend to keep her at the fringes of whatever I write because she has such a big personality it sucks all of the air out of the room. I want a chance for the other characters to come to the fore. You'll probably notice I often set her back as the "enquiring mind" character. She asks a lot of questions to keep her in the scene but doesn't take over the arc.
I think if they'd been able to do more full cast episodes, we'd have gotten a better balance. That's why I'm loving the big finish stuff (and I've only been drip feeding myself these very slowly) because they all get their own stories to shine in and it the proves you don't need Jack or Gwen to lead everybody else by the nose to get through the story. Glad that all of the original cast agreed to stay on and record these. Hope we get to see more writing from you too. There's always room for more Owen and Ianto banter.
