Summary: Jack knows that simple things are worth sacrificing for the truly important things.
'Nice work, Greg!' Jack bellowed out, jogging over to catch up with the handsome man who was currently sitting on top of their quarry whilst he waited for Jack to assist him in handcuffing the blowfish. 'Your first blowfish. That's one for the scrapbook.'
'Oh, do shut up and just help me, would you?' Greg snapped, struggling to keep the juvenile from throwing him off and making its escape. It was squirming violently underneath him on the grassy riverbank, not helped by the fact that both of them were sopping wet. The last thing they needed was for it to slip way, both literally and figuratively.
Jack deftly clipped the cuffs in place, adding a second pair to the blowfish's ankles, allowing Greg to finally clamber off. 'I gotta say, for an aquatic species, you don't swim too well,' Jack observed, having watched the pair of them tumble into the River Taff as Greg attempted to wrap himself around its legs. The battle in the water was short-lived. Whether by accident or by design, Greg had grabbed a handful of its cranial fin, trying to keep his head above water, and by doing so, caused the blowfish no small amount of pain. After that, it wasn't long before Greg had managed to paddle the pair of them back to the bank, dragging the mewling alien with him.
The blowfish twisted its head and snarled at Jack, its pain now forgotten. 'Bite me, filthy human!'
'No thanks,' Jack replied. 'I prefer my calamari battered and deep fried.'
He turned to Greg, about to ask if they could get fish and chips afterwards now that the thought was planted in his mind. He saw the young man shaking visibly, soaked to the skin from their time in the water. 'Hey,' Jack said, his voice full of tenderness as he shirked off his coat and began wrapping it tightly around Greg. Greg's lips were almost as blue as those stunning eyes Jack adored so much. He leaned forward and enveloped those lips in a kiss, warming them up.
'You two are disgusting!' the blowfish seethed.
When Jack finally broke off the kiss, Greg was staring at him with more affection than he could take. Jack's heart felt fit to bursting. He couldn't think of a moment anymore when Greg wasn't all he wanted in this world.
'You shouldn't have done that,' Greg said.
'What? Kissed you?'
Greg gave him a little smile. 'No. Given me your coat. Now it's going to get all wet on the inside,' he complained, his shivering beginning to slowly abate as the thick wool surrounded him, drawing away the dampness from his skin.
'But my gorgeous Greg is going to get all nice and warm on the inside,' Jack replied, rubbing up and down his arms to add extra warmth. 'That's a sacrifice worth making.' He grabbed Greg's cheek and kissed him again, oblivious to the frosty night air. All he needed was Greg to keep him warm.
