Notes: Being a newbie means learning lots of vital lessons. A double drabble.

'Hey!' Jack yelled out, his face full of fury and annoyance. 'Do not poke your finger in there unless you wanna lose it!' He marched over, trying to remember if any of his original team had been this green when they'd joined Torchwood.

'I was only going to give it a little pat,' the woman replied. 'It looked so sad locked up inside that box.'

'Uh huh. And when I tell you it's the rodent equivalent of a piranha, how would you feel about sticking your hand in there?' he chastised. 'Rule number one: do not assume just because it looks furry and cute that it won't hurt you.'

'I thought rule number one was don't mess with the rift.'

'Well, I just changed it,' Jack replied, not in the mood for technicalities. Ianto really needed to get a move on and write that employee manual.

The woman frowned at him and he could see the gears ticking away in her mind as she tried to get his measure. 'This Torchwood business is very confusing if you're going to keep changing rule numbers. You should number them properly so people can remember them.'

Jack sighed. 'Ianto recruited you, didn't he?'

I'm glad that I've brightened your back to back crappy weeks. I don't know how you remember all these fics! I completely bypassed reading fanfic and seem to have gone straight from TV series to writing, missing everything in between!
